Description
The Director of Environmental Sustainability- Business Partnerships will influence and consult on sustainable business operational decisions to support the achievement of Cox Conserves targets and act as a bridge between technical experts across all Cox Divisions. This role will be responsible for sustainability project/program commitments on behalf of the impacted business and operation’s teams that often require extensive knowledge of operational hurdles and partnering across many teams and leaders to execute end-to-end change management.
Designed to help maximize the efficiency of Cox Conserves targets and projects, this role requires strategic leadership, effective communication of sustainability initiatives, and the ability to consult and support cross-divisionally sustainability goals. This role will also lead by influence across the team and manage staff to support the divisional partners across the company.
The Director is responsible for leading a team of individuals focused on communicating the Cox Conserves initiatives by leveraging their relationship and partnership with individuals and teams across more than 800 Cox facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Develop methods to communicate Cox Conserves strategy cross-divisionally.
- Provide leadership support between Cox Conserves and Cox Divisions.
- Communicate progress effectively to executive audiences, including Executive Leadership, to report Cox’s progress toward sustainability goals
- Deeply understand all business operations and drivers to identify critical environmental-outcome inflection points.
- Drive conversation and advise senior divisional and operational leaders to educate them on key impact drivers and business benefits to reducing and mitigating environmental impacts.
- Influence divisional leaders at all levels to prioritize achieving Cox Conserves targets, keeping them fully equipped on the evolving business benefits of doing so, including brand, employment brand, government relations, efficiency, cost, and revenue benefits.
- Oversee the engagement with relevant Cox, Facilities, and Operations teams to identify and address operational opportunities to reduce the environmental impacts of business activity.
- Lead and support a team in their partnerships with each relevant division.
- Support, communicate, and develop strong relationships with stakeholders.
- Meeting regularly with stakeholders and working to resolve performance disparity across teams, regions, and departments.
- Supporting sustainability projects and programs led by other team members as business-unit operations subject matter experts.

Job Qualifications – Experience/Education/Training:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 10 years’ experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 8 years’ experience, a Ph.D. and 5 years’ experience in a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles (e.g., supply chain, finance, customer service, etc.)
- The ability to create and manage high-trust relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Expertise in negotiating and advocating on behalf of key stakeholders and managing conflict.
- Sustainability background and experience in various subject matter areas (i.e,. energy, water, waste, biodiversity)
- Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings and site visits with a variety of stakeholders.
- Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
- Experience identifying, measuring, communicating and managing key program performance indicators.
- The ability to influence and impact while managing multiple complex priorities.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to perform and present financial analyses and business cases to a variety of audiences, including executive leaders.
- Experience producing and delivering relevant progress reports and readouts in a complex, matrixed organizations.
- The ability to analyze large datasets, using insights to generate actionable recommendations and forecast potential impact scenarios.
Preferred:
- A master’s degree in a related field.
- Direct experience with the Cox divisional environmental council/green team, preferably in a functional program leadership role.
- Experience or formal training in Greenhouse Gas (GhG) Protocol and other common sustainability reporting frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD, SBTi).
- Experience solving organizational challenges in environmentally sustainable operations.
- A strong understanding of change management and human-centered design principles, practices, and tools.
- Experience communicating sustainability issues across varying audiences and expertise levels.
- Experience developing workflow and dataflow diagrams.
- Experiencing successfully negotiating and managing vendor relationships
- PgMP certification or PMP with demonstrated program management experience
Other Essential Job Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Travel Up to 50% of travel may be required
Compensation:
Compensation includes a base salary of $129,100.00 - $215,100.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.
